They've dated for a bit.
Each one loves the other more,
Than other would admit.
I think she stays up late at night,
Right next to him in bed.
She surfs around a dating site,
To stay one step ahead.
A scandal! Yes, you wanna hear?
She's found another man.
At this point, it's not sincere,
There is no evil plan.
There were so many choices there,
The harrys, toms, and dicks.
She chose one with raven hair...
Eight inches in the pics.
But dear reader, it's okay!
For he has secrets too.
He surfs around, but in the day,
Oh, if she only knew!
He found a blonde, a knockout blonde,
With brown hair at the root.
She had no choice but to respond,
He said her tits were cute.
This is cheating, some would say,
But I would say it's not.
It isn't cheating 'till the day,
That one of them is caught.
What if she was the blonde brunette,
And he, the other dude?
What if there was no other threat,
Just people getting screwed?
Their online selves are tailor made,
For jealousy and lust.
Each one strong, but too afraid,
To have the other's trust.
And to this day they never heard,
Their partner's secret lie.
The giant fight had not occurred,
And no one had to cry.
Neither of them had to cheat,
No loving went to waste.
The not so innocent deceit,
That keeps them always chaste.
Maybe it's the little lies,
That keeps them safe from sin.
Or maybe it's a bad disguise,
That keeps them trapped within...
Author notes
I'm a note whore, so here we go!
First and foremost, it is very important to point out that this has nothing to do with my relationship or my personal life AT ALL. I think that's a trap that people sometimes fall into on this site, so I felt the need to point it out.
The core idea behind this piece does seem a little hack to me. I'm sure it's been done before in some charming romantic comedy movie or perhaps a book or two. The reason why I stuck this one out is I thought I could maybe get a slightly unique angle on it. Also, there were several stanzas and lines that were too good to pass up, so maybe just in terms of construction this piece justifies itself.
Those of you who have read my other stuff know that I'm fascinated with truths and lies. This one is kind of meant to explore the concept of an "important lie" that could perhaps be justifiable. I also love the idea of a couple where each person, try as they might, can't get out of the reach of their own couplehood.
Thanks for reading

A bad disguise most likely. A funny satire on the modern world where no one really has to truly commit (or be honest) to each other, either online or in real life. It's funny as course as satire can be -- you point a finger at who and what many are...I've seen these situations here on AP and otherwise, some comical, some sad, nearly all of them impossible.

Haha. I read this a couple times before I got to commenting, and each time I liked it more. I'm not even going to point out that the rhythm and rhyme were done nicely, because they always are, and I'm always insanely jealous.
I really like the conversational tone you used to write this, the scandal line especially, it makes the poem funnier because it seems as though the narrarator is excited by the news. Poems like this are so fun to write, and when written well, great to read too. The minute I saw the title, I knew it was unavoidable to like this poem, and I wasn't disappointed. Awesome job!

Well. lol that was something..I liked it yes. Funny though that's how I met my fiance online talked for a few years then met now soon in augest we will be together for four years getting married next year. Was it a scandle? not at all just to young love birds it was fate.

I really like the way that some would call it cheating to go internet dating if you're not single but others would not, i mean i see where the harm could be but as long as the lie doesnt get caught there really isn't any harm. I love it in a big way, i've been a sitch like that before!

I loved it in a way I really can't quite express. It made me think, and it made me wonder, and it made me want to check in with my boyfriend, haha!
Great write <3

This was very interesting to say the least. I think you achieved the unique angle you wanted because your writing style is pretty unique by itself. I love the idea portrayed here and it really makes me think. Who knew that lies can be good sometimes?

:)
This is really good. I love it, although i think it is cheating when someone looks for another person in the way they were. Good write though.

You know I always read these shameless pieces and think, Yeah sometimes you need some shame, cause they are never like awe inspiring. but this was fairly decent. I'm going to read some more of your stuff but you might have just earned what I like to call an everytimer. You know what I mean, the person adds you and comments your new poems one at a time every time it pops up on your log in page....
