Avian Cold War

Once there was a night bird who lived in a tree,
Feathers black as night and dark piercing eyes,
It lived in a tree with other birds
But these birds tended to inbreed.

And one day the night bird caught the eye of a lovely blue bird.
Then later a white Irish owl.

They flew up into the sky and found their own tree,
Without inbreeding, and lived with mis-matched birds.
Like themselves, the mis-matched avians tended to be eccentric,
often kicked out of the murders and flocks for not being elite.

And thus a war between birds!
The inbred all pecked whilst the mis-matched cackled in their tree.
And when the mis-matched attacked, they used all their might and brains,
Shattering the walls of conformity under big hen's roost.

The night bird and white owl resided atop a mighty oak,
with the blue bird as first mate and the kukubara guarding the gum laughing maniacally.
The penguin, chicadee, and hawk are there too, and all the mis-matched birds
Live merrily with their loudness, drinks, happiness, and harmony.

Author notes

kukubara sits in the old gum tree, merry merry king of the bush is he.
