The Fallen

Salute the flag as he always did,
every day since he was a kid.
And stand tall American, every day.
Like he did when he heard "Taps" play.
Stand tall and proud in the patriotic manner,
each time they play the "Star Spangled Banner."
And thank a soldier for your freedom,
Go tell a Disabled Veteran we still need him.
Watch the fireworks on July 4,
because the fallen cannot do this anymore.
Let your children "Pledge Allegiance" to the flag in school.
As used to be Americas "Golden Rule".
When the soldiers march by, row by row,
thank them for the freedoms that they bestow.
Remember that the fallen fell for what he believed,
and all of the freedoms America received.
And on Memorial Day remember the soldier who died,
Remember the families that have mourned graveside.
When you see the flag solemnly draped at half mast,
Remember each of the "Fallen" that now have passed.

  • A beautiful tribute to those who do what they do to preserve our freedoms. Bless you for recognizing their significance and brilliantly pointing it out. Good flow and rhyme. A little off here and there but otherwise well done!
    Thank you for your entry!

  • Very good indeed. Yes these people did fight for freedom and equality, not just because they willingly wanted to kill others. I think you made the p[oint very well indeed.
    Thank you for your entry\

My father is a vietnam vet.. That war.. well any war messes people up... I could say a lot about the subject.. Support for anyone who fights for the rights of others.. This piece is great. Thanks for sharing.

  • This is not about the current war at all. This is about everyone that died for our country, and your right to not support the current war. This is about those who died at places like Bunker HIll, Inchon, Midway, Normandy, Bull Run, Lexington, San Juan Gulf, Gettysburg, Saipan, Tet Offensive, Anzio, Pearl Harbor, Okinawa, Guadalcanal, and many other battles that defined -and still define the courage and commitment that America has to freedom and liberty. Thank you for reading.

  • the emotion in this is powerful. you have some great talent, and a definite way with words. Personally, i refuse to pay taxes for a war that i don't support, but i think each to his own. obviously, you feel great pride for this country. keep up the great work! looking forward to reading more!
