My dear La La
Living in Southsea, within a stones throw of the sea, is wonderful!
Fortuitously, next door to my brand new flat is an adorable little Italian restaurant, Alforno. It is of gourmet quality and very convenient for unexpected guests, the asparagus risotto is exquisite.
One of my greatest pleasures these days, on finishing the daily grind, is to sit in the sunshine, with my newspaper and a glass of wine. A favourite spot is outside the restaurant. The patron provides delightful little tables and chairs where one can sit and watch the world go by. However, today, when trying to take up my preferred position, a sad discovery dawned, the tables and chairs had vanished!
Disappointingly, gesticulating to bemused staff did not so much as conjure a foot stool. After some investigation, it was discovered that the Council, in their wisdom, have decreed that out-of-doors facilities are in fact illegal. Unless a licence is purchased, nothing can be done. My petulant pleading was just met with up turned hands and a sanguine smile.
Well, my dear La La, reality now needs to be faced, my alfresco dining days are over. Protest is pointless, and falling into disgruntled despair seems to be my only option, that is, unless the Lebanese restaurant at the end of the block, with the charming umbrellas, serves a good Chablis...
Lovely to catch up, come see me soon

Unexpected
Thanks for commenting on my poem "the voyeur."
I thought I'd return the favour.
I really enjoy this prose. I think the art of letter writing has died a very sorry death in these days of one line responses and instant communication. Have you ever noticed how people never actually have anything meaningful to say when you chat on IM or how most people are so caught up in what they are saying that the never actually answer your questions?
I love this little sneak peek into you life. I can imagine your consternation at finding you favorite happy place has been destroyed by bureaucratic nonsense.
Lovely!

Superb prose, in the form of a letter, I see. Beautifully done
