Proudly are my footprints shown by the earth
Identical, the dust on which you walk
Our desires equal, forbidden from birth
I remain in our secret place to talk
And you, on the soft twilight horizon
Beneath the same purple-blue skies I stand
Knowing your tenderness does not wizen
--the tempting breeze brings you closer to hand
Fate’s strong red string connects us already
To unite: the result it does pursue
Your longing wayward glance remains steady
Wrapped in his arms yet I gaze back at you
For we are victims of actions unwise:
Of unseen forces and wandering eyes.
Author notes
For contest. Prompt:
#2 "Just as last night the rain that drenched you drenched me too and bound us."
~Parry; Ian McEwan, Enduring Love.
I find it difficult to write in the first person sometimes, but it seemed appropriate.

This is a really beautiful sonnet, and must I mention again that I envy your ability to write them?
I think your poem deeply reflects the quote without being too specific to it. It has a story of its own that could easily be expanded on yet seems complete as it is. My favourite lines are 11 & 12; simple yet in that simplicity gives really strong imagery as well. The ending of the poem is really powerful too.
Thanks for the contest entry and good luck!
