I watched her fingers linger against the windowpane,
the silhouette fuzzy but
recognizable, no doubt. Her voice rises like smoke,
filling my head with hot air
and always looking for higher ground, and she's begging
just begging to get more lost than found.
Found like the raggedy pair of ear muffs,
forgotten in some frozen swan lake, the ones she wore
every winter for six years straight,
until she started staying in on cold days
to whisper lullabies to the fire.
And maybe on some of those cold nights,
she'd sing a different lullaby,
some harmless melody that would remind her of me.
She'd stop
and stare out her fuzzy window,
touching the glass,
but I'm no more here than a ghost.

Great Write!
Thank you for bringing this great piece to my contest, I really enjoyed it. I like the point of view you presented the imagery in. This piece, all in all, was a very good read for me. I was taken in, and that happens so rarely with me. Excellent writing however. Thanks again!
