I was ruined and I was ridden
By the guilt that I had hidden
Like the bottle I was clasping,
Fearing I would never find
Someone’s love to end my searching,
When above my hovel perching
On a bough beyond my grasping,
Hushed the white dove, “Never Mind!”
I was marked by moody thinking,
In a deep depression sinking,
I was worried and was wary,
I was wretched, lost and blind-
When above my worn and slender,
Sorry form, like soft surrender,
In a voice like Virgin Mary,
Hushed the white dove, “Never Mind!”
I was tangled up and twisted
Like a sunken ship that's listed
In the stormiest of weathers,
I was wrecked and had declined-
When appeared this peaceful creature
Who was pure in every feature,
And on trying to grasp her feathers,
Hushed the white dove, “Never Mind!”
She appeared to be all-seeing
For she saw right through my being,
Read me like a bed-time story,
Like a clear mirror, she divined-
In her cleanness, she reflected
How I lied and disrespected
And before I said I'm sorry,
Hushed the white dove, “Never Mind!”
From the cloud of great unknowing
Came the bird whose wings were glowing,
White and pure beyond desiring
And too soft to be defined-
Lit this bird of peaceful resting,
And when questioned where she’s nesting,
In response to my inquiring,
Hushed the white dove, “Never Mind!”

Your style of writing is so incredibly impressive and unique. It's like you take this very classic and beautiful style of writing and just give it ...something...I don't know...different. I really enjoy reading your work..you are a true talent.

I second the other comment on this one.
Raven is one of my personal favorites from Poe. This pays homage to one of the greatest. It's always a pleasure to read you, David.

This is absolutely fantastic! A wonderful twist on Poe's Raven with beautiful images of this White Dove and her all seeing eyes. Good luck in the contest!
