Desert Oasis

Like that refreshing refuge on the route
Of caravans that crossed the cruel lands,
That fertile place of figs and citrus fruit
Surrounded by a sea of shifting sands,
Just like that lush and gorgeous little grove
Whose cool refreshments are a sweet relief
To worn and weary wanderers who rove
The deserts that are dry beyond belief,
Where blue rejuvenating rills renew
And wash away the barrens bitter taste-
My garden in the desert, darling you
Are like a lush oasis in the waste.

For in a wicked world that’s wanting grace
Where dirty desert dogs spread their disease,
Your beauty brings to mind that peaceful place
Where blows a free and easy, balmy breeze;
That place where green and graceful, swaying palms
Surround the moon-bejeweled, evening pool,
And helpful hosts come bearing healing balms
And fans for keeping fevered foreheads cool;
They calm complaints of pilgrims passing through
And soothe the burning blisters on their feet-
My Eden in the desert, darling you
Are like a cool oasis in the heat.

And in a blasted land where there’s a blight,
A bitter land that’s barren and accursed,
My darling, you are such a welcome sight
For someone who was dying there of thirst;
For just like that rejuvenating glade,
That green spot in a hot and hostile clime,
Providing rest and respite in the shade,
That site that’s so delightful and sublime,
Where sore eyes see what’s beautiful to view
And dry tongues taste delights that quench and quell-
My heaven in the desert, darling you
Are like a green oasis gracing hell.

    Just read this one and the Angelic Dove Tale...this one impresses me. I second the comment below. It flows very well.

    Incredible visuals, interwined with some of the best alliteration I have read on AP....

    I felt as if I were knee-deep in an unforgiving mirage. What an AMAZING scene!
