then,
there's the matter of
freedom
i am not deprived
but free to live
without
without
stench
expense
and jitters that
lie me into slow death
i breathe
deep and sure
without a cough
without a wheeze
so please don't try to tell me
what i'm missing
kissing me is not
an ashtray anymore
and i
have money
better spent on
life instead of
lies told by
addiction
hell bent on
killing me
life is too dear
to be set aflame
for fear of losses
written in the
flimsy rings of
fake satisfaction.

Author notes
I smoked for nearly 35 years. Been smoke free for nearly 2 years now. I read a book and I quit smoking. No drugs, no patches, no bs. Wasn't the first time I tried, but it was honestly the easiest thing I have ever done once I did it.
The book was "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr.
There are no good reasons to continue to smoke. NONE.

Hey
You'res is very nice, You are a very good poet and thank you for the comment on mine. I hope i get to read more of your poems sometime. -
I can easily relate to the situation you have presented. I was never an avid smoker but for the entire duration I smoked I never enjoyed it yet I still wasted money knowing I was self enflicting damage to my vital organs. Good write

Hey thankyou for the edit on the word tragic. I wrote that at like 4 am but excuses aside I appreciate your thoughts.

Great pen, Violet Moodswing. I enjoyed the imagery of "flimsy rings"
I want to tell you what happened with me. I quit about 2 and a half weeks ago. I love to go antiquing and to second-hand junk stores. It's sort of like treasure hunting. You never know what you'll unearth... The day before yesterday I was in such just a place and saw a blue book that had Stop Smoking on its cover. I picked it up and carried it around with me for a little while, then put it back on the shelf, deciding not to buy it.
I read your message earlier today and wondered- Allen Carr. Hm. the name sounded familiar.
I had errands to run today and did so. As an after thought I stopped by that same store to just take a quick run through. (Merchandise changes every day)
and there it was, The Easy Way to Stop Smoking - by? Allen Carr.
I just smiled and bought the book.
Thank you...

I went from three packs a day to nothing in 24 hours.
I had been smoking since I was in grade 5 so you can say I had plenty of experience.
LOL
Congrats on quitting that nasty habit.
