Weeds about five feet tall stood in serried ranks upon the red stone chips
Refreshed by a heavy deluge of rain falling from a thundery sky
Hedging along the boundary of the garden sprawled menacingly above me
The rotary clothes airer stood silent...alone, surrounded on every side
Ruptured plastic sheeting underneath the chips lay tattered and disintegrating
A once brightly plumaged flower border buried under a choking mass of greenery
Long vanished clothes pegs lay among the stones like bleached bones of some long forgotten garden visitor
The patio looked incongruous in its livery of dandelion and nettle finery
A garden shed...its wood treatment fading fast and torn roofing felt hanging loose
Decay and desolation hung over that once happy spot...that once happy spot
Old toys and a rusting swing frame leaned against the shed wall
A gas barbecue...unused...unloved...stood stripped of its sleek glossy paint
Rusting peacefully against the harling on the brick wall next to the drainpipe
Discarded bags of rubbish stacked neatly below the kitchen window
Where are those long hot sunny days...the sounds and smells of...
That once happy spot

You wrote this well! Your words give a very visual view to the mind as one reads this. And it is very true that how we feel inside can be reflected in our personal enviroment. Well done!

I just found myself picturing this scene perfectly. You did excellent work here.
"Discarded bags of rubbish stacked neatly below the kitchen window
Where are those long hot sunny days...the sounds and smells of...
That once happy spot "
This ending was superb.

Thank you
I much appreciate your most generous remark on my write...Im afraid it is a much more common sight these days where I live...it may just be a reflection on the mood or attitude among people today...the lack of something in their own lives displayed externally by their surroundings?..Im no expert but it seems a plausible idea...again thanks for commenting..Dan xx
