Hole

There was a hole within me
a dead festering wound
a never healing affliction
it grew by the moment
slowly devouring me
until it was so large
I collapsed into it
sheltered within its bleeding walls
I hid myself away
allowing it to consume me
a dying soul cocooned in pain
feigning safety in the comfortable known.

I lost much of myself
feeding the hole everything
for it never filled
ever hungry for life
I gladly fed it mine
never mourning my loss
barely caring to breathe
half living another's life
a breathing corpse
I lived only to feed it
an internal master
left unquestioned in its right.

A whisper was heard
out-speaking the screams
undermining the master
your kiss
my first true breath
yet even before we met
you were healing me
slowly mending the broken
your lips
so soft against my jagged tears
breaking down the walls
attempting to revive me.

Somehow I always knew
connected to you from the start
you've never left me
even when you weren't there
I could feel you
safest arms hold me close
the beast is tamed
cowering into nothingness
leaving a peace
thus far unknown
I find myself
within your arms once more.
