Forgetting Your Love

Closing the door with a click of pain and regret.
Maybe today I can finally forget
What loving someone meant.

Those three words have never been so real...
Now I'm hoping it will conceal
What three years have revealed.

I'm lost in memories
Of being close to you,
Breathing in that hue.
What did I miss?
A solitary hint...
Did it ever exist?

Poor thoughts and lesser words have left me all alone,
Void of the only love I've ever known,
With a heart that's turned to stone.

I've fallen to the side of this path; I've failed the test
And thrown away a love that was so blessed.
I'm broken-hearted, beaten down, and I'll confess-

I'm wishing more than anything to forget.
