The voyeur

I stand outside your window

Smoking a cigarette
Wishing cancer wasn't
such a slow suicide

Hiding my heart behind
the buttons of my shirt
and a sarcastic grin

I listen to your whispers
and giggles
(though I suppose butch dykes don't giggle)
the creak of your leather pants,
the moan of another woman

Well bois don't cry
and neither will I

I remember how soft you were
under that tough exterior
and wondered if you let her touch you
the way you never let me

Watching the smoke
curl around my fingers
feeling it slide over my tongue
like a phantom lover

Knowing
you fucking played me!

Author notes

Warning: Swearing and general nastiness in this poem.

This is not quite the pining over a straight girl poem you were expecting but I think it qualifies for your contest. This happened long ago while I was an angst ridden kid, still coming to terms with myself, who fell prey to a bigger dyke than me.

This really hits home for me, except for the lesbian bit. but as a smoker and a girl stuck on another human being who has moved on, its extremely lovely to read. Thank you for writing it.
