i am no poet

i am no poet
i do not write masterpieces
nor literary gems that generations to come will learn
all i can do is pour out what resides in my simple little heart

love

i see the face of the one i love and
my brown eyes shine from within
with the light of a thousand wished-upon stars
and the moon to which i blow kisses every night
praying he will feel them on his cheeks

nature

trees speak to me through uplifted arms
and cheerful waves
and during the summer thunderstorms
they howl with the age-old rage of their massacred forebears
which constitute my home

pain

the gravestones of the ones I loved
who were taken from me, it seems, far too soon
a marriage there amongst the dead
and the children i once hoped for
i now cannot quite resurrect that hope

longing

i long for a peace that i will never see on this earth
my tears that fall down every day water the flowers
that every grieving mother placed on her murdered child's tomb
a war i cannot fathom rages in a country i may yet see
for i too am now a member of those who live to serve and possibly die

pride

i am Kelly Jean Boal.
i am no poet, for
no one exists who could write the true poetry that is the stars that hang like jewels
the sun that sends out warmth and light from unimaginable distance
the moon that turns its face from us and then forgives and returns yet again to grace our nights
the leaves that grow from a barren branch in the early spring, unheeded
the unexpressable love between mother and child
the infallible wish for peace that everyone in some ways holds in their heart

i am no poet
i am simply me
and the poetry in me
those words
they are the poet.

Author notes

i am no poet without the poetry in my soul

i am no poet; i am merely the poet's pen

  • That pen you merely claim to be is what makes you a poet.
Keep telling yourself you're not a poet,
when you've convinced yourself of this........you'll realize how wrong you are.
This is a great piece of poetry.

And thank you for the comment! I love feedback! ^_^

  • that was wonderful work, if you are no poet then what does that make the rest of us just readers.
    fabulous work

  • And I am no critic, just a very proud uncle. This is amazing work. You tell the inner poet that they did good. I hope it continues to guide your pen. I loved the reading of it as well. Its very interesting to hear how the "poet or the pen" sees the words. Much love for the pen, the poet, and the work.

  • I really like the different subjects in this piece and how they are unrelated but you put them together like this.

It makes me pause and think. Good job making this flavorful.

Perhaps you are both, the poet and the pen.

Wow ...You may write those words not a poet but your beautiful verse reaches out to the classic and is a wonderful piece of true bred literature ..the soft creative innocence runs through this piece and relates well to the reader ...O no my friend you have the true soul and pen of a poet

    • Thank you i really appreciate that contradiction, surprisingly!
Thank you for commenting & reading!
