Halley's Comet and Other Shiny Objects

Once again she looked at the ring on her finger
Thinking that her man is more than a fairy tale
He is her Prince Charming;
Her Knight in Shining Armour

As she looks to the sky she sees a wondrous sight
Knowing that it is only seen about once every seventy-six years
She runs inside to get her love
Very excited at having seen Halley's Comet

She enters the house and sees them
Her Prince;
Her Knight;
With another woman

At this she faints
He hears her fall and rushes to her
"Baby!!" He screams
"My love, wake up!!"
He gently shakes her, trying to bring her back

When she finally comes to
She slaps him hard across his face
Tears start to fall from her ocean blue eyes
"Why...?" was all she could manage to say

He embraces her lovingly
"It's not what you think, I promise"
He grabs her hand and kisses it
"You see this ring, do you not?"
"Yes.. But.. But, I saw..."
"I know what you think you saw,
And it's not the truth. Babe, I love you,
I want you for my wife. That's why you have this"

He shows her the sparkling diamond
She looks at it and starts crying again
"I know you love me and that's... that's why I don't understand
Why.. why, is she here!! And why was she all over you!?"

He searches for the right words and then sighs
"She is an old flame, and she wants me back.
I told her to leave because I love you but she would not have that.
So she forced herself on me."

"That's what they all say.." she says between tears
"I know... Is there anything I can do to prove it to you?"
"I.. I don't know.."
"Babe, please"
She looks into his eyes, at his face
Wanting this all to go away

He holds her for what seems like forever
Then he leans down and caresses her face with his lips
She puts her hand on the back of his head
And gently pulls him closer, guiding his lips to hers
Such passion in one kiss says it all


The years pass,
It's now time for Halley's Comet to be seen again
Their seventy-sixth anniversary
Still so much in love
The two sit outside and look for the comet

It passes over their heads,
"Make a wish," he whispers into her ear
"I don't need to, I have everything I could ever want"
She smiles as he holds her closer
"Same here"
"Same here" he repeats, then kisses her head
