To Love Lost

Missing image

Within these walls of stone and splendor

Where somber explorations wander,

Lies sadness, waiting to ignite the flames

Its embers dying for want of air

To bring love to life with tort’rous fangs

Long has all the vibrance gone from love

Leaving only dried invasive dreams

To wither and mingle with the ash

Of breathless moments and deadened kiss

Cold lips against unresponding flesh

Oh, will love ever crown my being

With warmth against life’s cruelest of blows

The heartbreaks, their unfaithful number

Haunting my dreams of bleakest abyss

No reprieve can be brought by slumber

Alas, I shall forever more be

Lost and alone within walls of stone

To nevermore know the tenderness

Of love and life once warm, turned cold

As I drift away to nothingness

This is a beautiful poem! The intense imagery just shines off the page. I often look back and try to make sense of things - I can really relate. I admire your wonderful use of vocabulary and your understanding of how to make the words work together.

    Wonderful!

looks like you shook your muse and it jumped up screaming I'm a wake I'm a wake. The closer we rush towards life's full stop the more we ponder if there is another paragraph or have we truly run out of paper...

I can relate to this to some extent. Death is the most painful mysterious feeling on this earth. It's amazing that you can write about it in such an artistic way. You are definately a poet to look up to!

    Dee~~

I swear, your "ramblings" send Shakespeare spinning in his grave! Your writing is absolutely amazing.

I can feel the heavy darkness in these words, and I can relate to them, within my heart of hearts. Thank you for leaving this pinned to your page, for me to stumble upon

    Best wishes,
    Zach Estel.

The finality of it all....saying goodbye to everything from the other side of the mist. An excellent write. Your creative style captures my attention and holds me prisoner until I finish the read.

a good poem penned - ah the sorrow here, it seeps through the poem's lines and scents the air, heavy with sighs, solitary winds blow loneliness across the features of forever, and tears capture time.

    Very Good

Death is something to ponder, thinking of never being a lover again to this person, rembering the warmth of an embrace in now cold stiff arms. I will soon know this for myself I would rather go with him.

I like these so-called rambling thoughts. The tone is a classical one, very pleasing to read and the subject of whether one will see love as something cold or as one that is alive is an intriguing one. I did enjoy it as much as I have any poem recently.

    Our lot in life

Well it awakened more than my muse, or else your muse woke mine. It is far more common than I used to think, so you are far from alone in this, in a world of aging tomcats! Unfortunately it does not ease the pain. After enough years have passed it is possible to write cheery notes like this!
Meanwhile that is one effective poem!

    Ha!

This reflects a reality I am sure for many in life and sometimes the pain and hopeless feelings of giving up through disappointments and heartbreak. Life can sometimes bring a lot of pain and do its number thats for sure. This clearly shows how sometimes it can get the best of us and can bring the mind and heart to some pretty low places and how deep depression does run sometimes.... Glad this is muse hehe I be worried.
