Faith Lost

A crowd of people gather as I am laid back into holy water
The priest takes his hand and forms a cross on my forehead
An invisible mark determining my views based on a book
Off to school each Sunday
To learn what Jesus died for
A man gave his life for me over 1900 years ago
I quietly contemplate why, but do not ask
Assumption is the seed of disbelief
For many years I attend church every Sunday
Listen to the father's words
God is good, God is great
Live by his words and Saint Peter will let me pass through the white gates
Nomine Patris, Filii, et Spiritus Sancti
Amen
Further down the road of life
News channels constantly broadcast reality
Death and crime rule this world
A war breaks out because their God is better than mine
I do not understand why these things happen
But God is good, God is great
Right?
Further down the road of life
War continues
I'm eating lunch in my senior year of high school
Life is good and easy
A friend walks up to me with a sad look on his face
Mark is dead
What
Car crash
Why?  He was a good guy, a great friend, WHY
God does not answer
A memorial service is held
I'm crying in the back of the church
So many questions
No answers
Never again will I enter the house of God
Faith is lost

Such an experiential write here dear poet...I like your transparency, because it evokes thought...Because there are no answers, faith seems futile...So many of us are going through struggles. May I encourage you not to give up on your faith....I enjoyed your write!

    Poet

A powerful write and oneI can understand and relate to. But one thing we must realize, and it is true that religion has caused most wars, is that man does the evil deeds and we must face that fact the evil exist. The notion of some Eutopian society a dream. But then again , like Robispierre and others, man has tried to abolish God & the result were never pretty. As I said it is us. Happy writting young poet.
