The Doppelganger

A young women went walking
On a cold, misty night
In an obsolete swamp,
And had herself a fright

For as she looked into the mist
Two dark brown eyes she did see
It only to her a moment to realize,
By Jove! She looks like me!

But the girl then noticed
That her other was dark
With black hair, pasty skin
And lips the color of tree bark

The girl turned to go,
And her other went away
But the girl fell into the bog
And her body was found the next day

So heed my warning
Don't pass it by,
If you see a doppelganger,
You are going to die.

Author notes

My take on the German myth.

Info on Doppelgangers:

"Doppelgänger or "Fetch", is the ghostly double of a living person, a sinister form of bilocation.....In some traditions, a doppelgänger seen by a person's friends or relatives portends illness or danger, while seeing one's own doppelgänger is an omen of death."

Good rhyme and flow. Interesting write, I liked the originality. Best of luck.

  • This is cool. Awesome write, Shelb. And hey, maybe at least one of us will win a trophy in this contest. I entered "cannilbalistic mind".
    Good luck =]
