Where Are My People

The rich and famous have plenty of fans,
Reaching out with greedy hands.
Hoping to gain from their dear "friend"
Swearing allegience until the end.

While on top, they are surrounded,
Head in the air, feet not grounded.
Thinking life will always be like this,
Full of glamour, glitz and bliss.

The day will come when one must fall.
Not one man is promised all.
Material things last but for a while,
Often tears replace a smile.

Left downtrodden and pennyless,
That's okay, I'll pull through this mess.
After all, my friends remain,
They'll lift me up, I'll start again.

Where are my friends, oh, they'll be back.
Life threw a curve, they're a little off track.
They'll be here soon, I know they will,
They weren't just leeches seeking a thrill.

Why don't they come?  Can't they see?
I'm down to nothing, just them and me.
I need their help to get on my feet,
They're like strangers I meet on the street.

My focus was off, my views were wrong.
My values were not where they belong.
Pity the man who turns from God,
To follow man on paths untrod.

    Amen ! Amen!

This is so true all else fails when Jesus is not put first How many times myself have I had to learn the lesson . Friends that have turn there backs on us were never really our friends. Sometimes they're even our own family, it hurts but when we stay close to God we are spared by His grace he gives us the strength to except What life sometimes throws at us. After all Jesus said the road was never going to be an easy road. Great write sis and straight to the point Love all your poems as always .keep the pen flowing sis.

I liked how you carried your theme through the poem and made your point. I liked the rhyming and the contrasts drawn. Thank you for entering my contest.
