Middle of Nowhere

the streets I cruise are wide-open.
they lead me to some civilization;
but if I go too far, I might see a dirt-road soon.

(hm, I think Im getting an appetite)

I have a choice of 4 fast-foods.
at the main interesection connecting town,
there's One on every corner;
with Mexican choices 2 blocks on each side.

(let's see what my people are up to)

somewhat interesting events happening.
swimmin in lakes -n- rivers,
going 4-wheelin and offroadin in the woods,
and local parties at people's homes.
~ I gotta think about some of that

(Im in a random photoshot mood)

I walk around The Square;
snap: the Courthouse in the middle with little shops around.

I walk towards the main-drag
snap: banks, autopart stores, some food.
oh look! construction is tryin to build up a Super Walmart.

(yawn. I think Im gonna go home and nap)

I take a look down the road.
seeing a gorgeous sunset
laying behind the 'cop-shop'.

I roll onto the gravel driveway.
settling down inside my place,
surrounded by pine and red clay.

(home. sweet. home.)

Author notes

I like the middle of nowhere, but I gotta have a bigger town/small city in the mix.

Enjoy!

    My family is here , Clewiston , Florida

    We grew up like this - a bit more to choose from than your town - but not much more. We had the Country Club annd the town center - the local YMCA /Town Pool and tennis courts. Then 20 years later came the Super Walmart - that put out of business the K-mart.

      well the town itself is small. but the county is huge. there are 6 towns in it..
      there is 1 High school, 2 Middle, and about to be a 3rd Elementary School. and the high school is OLD, and too tiny for all the people. all the towns that are in the county just go to these schools.
      at the intersection there is: McDonald's, Burger King, DQ, Wendy's. go up a bit one way, you have Taco Bell, the other El Tajado, the one other one Big Chic.
      our Walmart (which I have lived with for almost 8 years) is the old-style of the business. it's one of those, "just a walmart sign". 'course I moved from where I had access to a Super Walmart to here, which doesnt have one. the closest access to one is 15-20miles in the North&South direction.
      they started building it end of last year; but because of rain and such, it put a delay. it was suppose to be done around this November (had a feeling it wouldnt). now its put off until Feb. 2010.
      we have an Ingles. thats our grocery.
      come to think of it, the most I see around the county... Gas Stations. theres a lot.

      yet, its bigger than where I use to live. or its kinda the same.. Iono. the town I use to live doesnt have a walmart, but it kinda doesnt need one since there is a super walmart not even 5 miles from downtown. they just finished building a bridge to go over downtown, because of all the traffic - how old the town is - the one lane bridge going thru downtown couldnt handle all the traffic. but it has its level-out of schools.
      it's also close to more of civilization. it literally is a by-pass of the towns surrounding it. which most my people are. so Im good =P

      I need to hush before I get a crazy stalker after me ><

        So many awesome memories - growing up like this.

        Strange how it all really has stayed the same. My little sister is married to a policeman up there. Most folks are pretty nice.

  • Middle of nowhere?

      yeah, it could be worse. it could be like a town that is south of my house, where its so small the only thing in it is the water tower and a post office, but it still uses my town's location on the mailing addresses.

      ah well..

    Reminds me of a town I spent my part of my summers in

    Clewiston, Florida back then two red lights one at the southend of town and that's right you guessed it - one at the northend going out. Folks are impressed these days it has really grown up and out. But I can really relate to this write. Thank you for posting it.

    • Oh how this takes me back ...

      and did you ever visit around the lake at Pahokee? I spent a little more than a year there as one of few people living on the water side of that horrible dike that was a neccessity. Ever get to smell the sugar cane fields burning? Charred rats and snakes cooked in sugar ,,, whew, pungent! joy

  • absolutely fantastic.
    it shows the way people really think.

  • I'm curious; where do you live?

  • interesting, you make it seem bigger and more eventful and not so bad than it really is. lolz
