broken stars


your star burned clear through my world, leaving little trails of light in front of my eyes like they used to, on warm nights in our backyards; when we were children and strangers to this feeling.

but now - your light, your glow, I could see through closed eyelids; and you surprised me into opening them. "being in love is like everything is in high definition," she told me, and she was right; now every one of those freckles that I love stand out like neon behind your skin.

the space between us is like Nevada highway at midnight, cool, cracked pavement underneath our bare feet - sky stretches out forever, dotted with stars. you stand on the other side, hair falling into your eyes and giving me that smile - the one that makes me run across that highway to tangle myself in you, fall into the sand and you're all I can see.

    Awesome, I put this on my finalists list after the first stanza, I wanted to after the first line but I had to keep reading.

    Damn, those were some great lines. Very true and I liked the description.

    I loved this poem, best prose I've seen in a while.

    This poem seems really deep, which I really liked about it.

    It's very emotional to read, and the imagery is amazing! I especially loved the image of the "Nevada highway at midnight". It's a very beautiful image.

    I think it reads a little bit more like a story than a poem, but even so, it works great.
