what separates us are tragedies.

someone is laughing in
the background and i
think how marvelous
it would be to have
the face that mouth is attached to.

to be that joyful.

-

he stands there crying,
a hand cupping
his shoulder.

"it is all i know how to do"
the gracious man cries.

"it is all i know"

-

what separates us are
tragedies. you asking when
i'll come home.
my old life asking if i
have to leave.

i straddle cities, knowing
one i must betray.

i tell you i will
be home soon.

-

the gracious man says
it's about more
than just one person.

but there are tears
and i'm sure he fears
the worst.

there are no songs that
can make this okay.
there are none that he
can sing without failing.

sir, there are
no disciples
to be made. they have all
became secular.

-

you don't know if you
can do this anymore.
i don't know if i
want you to.

i want to have
that laughter.
you want to be that joyful.

-

he is broken.
he says he loves all of us
but he just can't stay.

the crowd prays.
they understand.

i think, doesn't he owe
us something? don't we
deserve more than his
high pitched apologies?

-

i think i am lucky to
have you. you say it
is fate,

it has nothing to
do with luck.
but i do not open
umbrellas indoors,

just in case.

-

he screams "no,
you deserve nothing!"

but i am in
an empty room.
i am just imagining things
again.

but friend, it is all i know how to do.

i agree with acoustic, there is so much reality to this, it's a bit scary how compareable they are to my own. i hope times get a little easier from here on out, take care <3

Wow. This feels so personal and I really feel your voice in this one. I love the epic tone to it and how raw & tragic it is. One of my all-time favorites from you.
