Cowboys never stop dancing,
Cowboys keep the dream alive.
Cowboys brings heaven to the dance floor ,
to the Purple Sage every Saturday night.
Old Charlie was a fixture there,
he danced with every woman like Fred Estaire.
For at the sage where the country music played ,
old Charlie at 84 bid his goodbye they say.
Oh as he waltzed through those pearly gates,
he met up with his old buddies and it was great.
They shook hands and high fives for the reunion of time,
then they all turned and looked upon earth
for it was a Saturday night.
Old cowboys never stop dancing,
old cowboys keep their dreams alive.
Old cowboys brings heaven to the dance floor ,
to the Purple Sage every Saturday night .
You know those old country boys,
even heaven can't hold them back.
Together they decided for one more dance,
for flier miles they had earned and that's a fact.
They fell into the group there,
no one dancing was aware.
But a few on the sidelines
couldn't believe their eyes,
as those cowboys golden hue
caught their attention that night.
Old cowboys never stop dancing ,
Old cowboys keep the dreams alive.
Old cowboys brings heaven to the dance floor,
most every Saturday night.
For heaven is being held by a woman,
heaven can be seen in their eyes.
Heaven is joining two as one,
on the dance floor on Saturday night.
Upon every country and western dance,
their will be old Charlie with hat kicked back.
Dancing to heaven a dream come true ,
and held within a woman's arms and his last words
Lord now what do I do.
In a whisper he heard;
Cowboy never stop dancing,
Cowboy keep those dreams alive.
Cowboy keep bringing heaven to the dance floor ,
as you always did every Saturday night.

Nice rhyme ... did you mean Fred Astair by any chance? (the 2nd stanza) Oh and if you want the copyright to be legal and taken seriously, you might want it to be © and not the ampersand. Legally it should read ©Patricia DeGroff2009 ... or you could use

Cowboys indeed are interesting characters. I like the real ones, not the one's that just shop at Cavender's.
I liked the utterly Texan attitude of this poem, as well as it's effective structuring.

Beautiful lyrical piece penned here Patty
I felt the happy sadness of this write
the words touched me and you really did give to me an image of Charlie and the dance floor coming alive to the music of Country and Western.
I have a few favorite songs myself
Much love Julie x -
Fantastic
What a sight it would be to two step through those gates and finish off with a tip of the hat to your partner.

-
