I refuse to burn the photographs
of memory...mercurichromed moments
enshrined like tin-type idols
I take down from the memorial
mantle of the selective recollection;
all those yesterday illusions and sanguine
dreams that steal and reel my self-respect
backwards into euphoric reminiscenses...
into make believe whorls of magical fantasies
that never existed, except as dreamscapes
that caustically banter in empty corridors
of my mind blocking the road to happiness.
