Fly said the Eagle, fly if you can
Then pushed him right out of his nest
And he flapped and he flapped
As his little heart raced
He was out on his first major quest
*
He cried as he fell with the ground coming up
And he spread out his talons to slow
He flapped those wings hard
As he plummeted down
To the rising ground waiting below
*
A natural instinct swept through him
as he flexed his feathered fingers
Slowly leveling out, he began to cruise
circling around, he surveyed his world
Fear in his heart no longer lingers
*
He sees the massive nest, nestled high
upon the rugged rock-face
Far below movement catches now alert eye
A new perception surges
Pinions quiver, unsure he turns gliding
flying to his home nesting base

This is really cool... "pinions quiver"... that really brought the whole thing alive for me. I have always wantd to be a bird of prey for awhile, and although I would prefer to be a hawk, this was great to imagine. You gave me a bird's eye view. You ever read Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Your verses seem to have some very high energy wound into them, telling me what he was seeing as he took that flight. The last verse was really sweet. The little guy went home when he felt a little frightened. Well done and the very best in the contest.

Wow, this is inspirational without being corny or hokey! Congradulations, I didn't think it could be done.
