She is
sure my eyes
had seen the birth
of the sun. I knew I was
lost in the tangle of her wind
tossed hair. The truth of all
the trite phrases spilled
out and captured me
whenever she was
near.
She would
look over her shoulder,
smile, and know
I would follow her laughing
willing. I am her fool.
Stopped on a roadside to free
milk weed pod seeds
waiting for the right breeze
clinging to the edge of the shell.
Quietly, a blessing of thanks,
she kisses my cheek.
Leaves me with a memory
woven into my cells.
I look like Einstein, she declares.
My wild white hair, I think,
but she is swimming in my eyes.
I find
her footprints, a stray trace
the impression of her hand.
Her sails mingle with clouds.
Abashed, hands in pockets
knowing I am in love
she steals
up to me
nestles against
me, I know
I understand
what it means
to be
alive.

I love how the rythm almost stutters at times, as if you're breathless or can't think straight to get the words out. This is an incredibly touching poem, without being too sickly sweet or obvious. Great write =]

Thank you
I write to read out loud and this is a rush and pause piece. I admit to putting my hands in my pockets when reading it and twisting one foot slightly.
More importantly, we get what we can conceive and describe. Long ago, I realized I was exquisite in the negative and my life reflected that. I became intent upon writing exquisitely beautiful poetry. It took some growing, maturing and getting a few things straightened out. But, when I wrote my first truly beautiful poem, without any banal or trite lines and one that spoke with a voice that was mine, my life began to acquire the goodness I wanted in my life and the joy that should echo within it.
Peace & Light,
Tom B.

This is breathtakingly beautiful. To love and be loved like that, when the world is young and capture it for a lifetime, knowing that with nature as the witness love can bloom any where and at any time.

-
-
The first secret to love is being willing to receive far more than you believe you are worthy of. The second is to always share your joy and expand the joy of others.

Sometimes i try to remember if i ever really swam in anyones eyes, I have wrote it but did i feel it ...makes me long for the wind to come.

The wind to come, leaves me with thoughts that are creating a racket in my creative centers. You should see the results.
The effort in this was to catch that sweet magical feeling when you became ageless in the magic of a moment. The one moment when you knew you were in love.

To be in love, to feel the looks and know their meaning ...
Once again my dear sweet tomisb, you have done it again,

captivating. Thanks so very much for sharing with me on this

Thanks for the compliment
There is more than moonlight to love.
I wanted to catch the energy and show how we are all caught in moments when it makes us young all over again.

ladies man! Better keep the white hair!

Thanks. I wanted this to dance enough with love to give a sense of joy and a feeling of youth, that it would make those who read it dance with me.

well done, friend. i fell into love once and, probably against my better judgement, have not fallen out quite yet. this truly hits my feelings, especially the line "i am her fool." thank you for this piece. again, congrats

Ah, but know you are wisely foolish is only a delight to the heart and wears away the feelings of age.

"I look like Einstein, she declares.
My wild white hair, I think,
but she is swimming in my eyes."
Tell her I said that for far too long I have tried to set my mind on who it is you look like. She has that eye for sure. LOL
I love when you write about Sue. You ought to collect these pages and create a book. Poems to Her. I gathered all my writing about Ray and created a book called "letters to Raymond" and presented them to him in a booklet for our 33rd Anniversary. He has it sitting here on the desk. I smile knowing...
Congrats on the Emerald Cup! ~Sigh

Not a bad idea, but it would be a very fat book.
Maybe taller than she is. This is just one of those lazy day, drifting on a river poems.
Love,

im not mad about how you cut the lines up but it makes a good affect with the style you used. i like the last stanza a lot

There is a term in modern poetry called enjambment. I use it a lot. Glad you enjoyed. Also things are set up to cue my emphasis, when I read them aloud at open mics.

Thanks,
Tom B.

Very nicely done. Such brilliantly beautiful and original descriptions. I could see and whats-more feel your words. In terms of the subject of this contest that's very important.
Thanks for entering.

I couldn't just say love makes you young, I wanted to catch you in the moment of being enchanted so you could feel the sense of wonder and joy that creates a sense of youth. Glad you enjoyed how this felt. Thanks for the honorable mention. Was pretty sure this was not "spot on" in terms of what you were looking for.

Peace & Light,
Tom B.

This is a wonderful love story filled with imagery that enhances every line. So much love spilled out here that read like both a song and the perfect dance together. Beautiful! Well said and well received.
Blessings and best wishes.

I never read anything by Einstein as romantic as this... LOL! The sun births in your soul everyday, my friend, not just one star, but galaxies as you choose to envision the inhabitants of heart and mind. It's evident in the very unabashed sweep of your 'pen'.
If your hair is white, it is because you pour all it's color into your poetry, where it magic sparkles like morning dew on a blade of grass, or snow on an evergreen in winter. Such things only appear to be still, but they vibrate the tenor of your heart.
No wonder she nestles!

My hair is thinning and heading towards snow.
we are forever young in the place where it brings us to the moment and keeps us from scratching around in the past.
Thanks for enjoying my dances with the waters of the fountain of youth.
Love,
Tom B.

Just lovely.
Perfect even.

You know perfection is for angels and I am anything but.
Still, I am glad you enjoyed my dance with the joy of love.

This so true about the heart and love...one is never to old to fall in love to have memories of a moment locked in time. Plus no one can take that gift from you ; that tender kiss; a sweet embrace...
my fave line: I would follow her laughing
willing. I am her fool.
No not a fool; but a man in love...also blooms just like a rose in June....then he's her jester...wanting to make her smile when she's already smiling....you really wrote this piece of poetry in such sweetness....I adore it!.........novy

Forever is a very short period of time when you are in love.
Thanks for sharing how much this poem, the dance of joy, touched you. I went a few places with this one I hadn't before. Always looking for the perfect poem, so you know there will be more.

There is no nicer compliment that "wow." That you tell me more than just that gives truth to the phrase and I am blessed to know that this poem spread joy. Thank you,
