paws covering his bloody nose
and tail flicking flies in the air.
eyes seeping tears of defeat
marking rivers, scars of time and age.
ashamed, ashamed, he waits for prey
and it comes, it comes but he's slow,
he's old and tired and hungryhungryhungry.
composure collapsing he waits,
he growls to intimidate but is intimidated
because they're bigger, stronger,
taller faster.
competition has never been
this strong.

Aw...sad but true
Life gets the best of us in the end. It is truly sad to see such power and beauty decline. On to the next journey in the afterlife! You wrote this very skillfully! Thank you for your entry in the contest... -
Dude, I heart this poem. First of all, as usual, the way you get ideas from a random prompt like that.. it's really impressive. I love how you write, it's very unique and special. This poem BETTER win. If not. I shall have words with the judge
