and joining with others only they did'nt know.
To break from the family so exciting it seems,
only to find their destination becomes a nightmare not a dream.
Lost in the land of evil dwellers they say,
drugged and before they realize whats happening become shipped away.
Waking in another country sold for sex and abused,
tell me at fourteen and alone what will you do.
If I was your mama I would have told you of the dangers about,
I would embrace you with such love and you would be in a safe place no doubt.
But often parents feel their child would never run away,
and in not believing it would happen many young people become lost today.
Thousands if you check the reports are missing and never found ,
Thousands are in the ages of fourteen to seventeen trusting strangers about.
Thousands leave their homes with such dreams in tow,
and thousands never ever again or found to be brought back home .
If you are thinking of this magical life afar,
to run away from home with friends know it could mean your last ride so far .
And once you get there and money runs short,
tell me how will you survive as a minor where will you start.
There are people watching for those so unaware,
young people who run away from home feeling no one cares.
Look about you this day and know out there hell waits,
for you to slip away from safety and into their grasp today.
Please I beg of you don't run away,
If I was your mama you would so feel my embrace.
To be told of the dangers even show you if I must to see you safe ,
and save the angels so young this very day .
Author notes
If you dont believe me then ask someone in the police department . They will tell you horror stories that will make you stop and think .For they find young people all the time who had run away from home and now whether being forced to become an addict or did it on their own their home is the city streets their jobs are selling themselves for their next fix and often going days without eating .And so many are found dead from an overdose .

Our little mother. I think of the mother in Little women when I think of you. How strong she was yet so gentle and kind. This is just like you Patty to care so much. Run aways do happen now more than from small towns too. Some parents can not cope is part of it what a mess this world is in. I hope the young ones listen.

Well said. Having worked where I do for over 20 years and knowing many people in law enforcement I can only say that I've seen more of this than I care to. The reasons for running away vary but too many end up in harm's way.

wow
this is a great poem written with skill, yet so emotive..it is written with passion and honesty straight from the heart....and yes the author's notes are correct....child smuggling...etc are rife in our evil world...this poem should be read by every with a heart...as a great man once said. he who has ears just hear (well something like that i can't remember off hand) this a real poem that must be read several times, and thought about deeply......well done

This poem was probably inspired by my friends and I wasn't it?
If it was, I've already told them as I've told you. I only feel grateful that I'm not going to Hollywood. I really do want to see the big city, but I'll probably be 20 before then.
Unfortunately, they'll leave and never return. One of my friends is in Hollywood right now. She moved there with her family because they wanted to. She didn't run away.
The other three are. I'm probably going to throw them in the back of my parent's car and take them to my home.
Oh well, I'll probably house them under my wing until they're eighteen.
