Fly If You Can (Collaboration ending)

Fly said the Eagle, fly if you can
Then pushed him right out of the nest
And he flapped and he flapped
      As his little heart raced
He was out on his first major quest
                                                                *
He cried as he fell with the ground coming up
And he spread out his talons to slow
      He flapped those wings hard
      As he plummeted down
To the rising ground waiting below

He flapped best he could and he begged to take flight
But it wasn’t as simple as that
He’d never been taught
That a bent wing could fly
And he struggled to hold his wings flat

Dive, said the ocean; dive if you dare
Then swallowed him tail, beak and breast
And he flapped and he flapped
As his little heart raced
He was lost on his first major quest

Author notes

I reversed the two structures your verses followed.. I thought that was the best way to do it.
If someone threw me from a nest without telling me how to fly.. I don't suppose I'd have a happy ending.
I'm meant to place something in here, but I'm not sure what, so I'll just say 'this'.

The first two verses are by the contest owner, I presume, and the last two are mine.
