I claim a diplomatic immunity
to life's laws
I pretend nothing; I am myself,
standing small
I fake everything
I'm unsure of
I claim to be free
yet find these shackles slip
unnoticed around my fate
I pretend these three;
I don't hear the sound of distant drums
I don't freeze in the warmth of the night
I don't miss you
I fake surprise that I am alone...
and that I contradict myself so often.

What a great opening.
diplomatic immunity to life's laws
I like that concept!
You have constructed this poem very well, and your closing line is great too. Best of luck in the contest.
