Never Quite Arrived

One- hundred dollars,
a monetary gift certainly appreciated
needed to replenish
all those ordinary things
running on empty

Called a cab,
that never quite arrived
she appeared,
a voice on the wire
ulterior motives,
intentions perfectly clear

At my side,
righteous as always
but for the wrong things,
in an awful way
picking up each object
inspection finding the all elusive faults
as if I were a lowly slug,
dancing in ecstasy,
rolling in salt

These eyes saw something promising
at a traffic light,burning red
blue exhaust,like a cigarette
from a dilapidated pick-up
a kindly kind of icy blue,
it could burn a hole quite nicely through
but then the lights changed,
such a green reflection,
highlighting an angry and suspect face,
this disinterested head just turns away...
