(poetry) Of a crude or irregular construction. (Originally applied to humorous verse, but now to verse lacking artistry or meaning.)
Probably the best modern example of this is Dr Suess, and who doesn't love him? You can find meaning in doggerel, and in almost anything, when you reread and reinterpret. Here's an example of my take on this. The following is my latest post in a discussion group on Amazon.com The discussion is called "Neuroscience: The latest front in the cultural war between science and religion."
To give you a hint: My interpretation relates Green Eggs to the True Self that can be found thru meditation, and the Ham is the Universal Constant, i.e. God. Is this appropriate? You be the judge.
so...for anyone new to the discussion, here's a gestalt version... i've refined 28 pages into a poem...
Thanks to all the people who responded or noted me, perhaps my next synopsis will be entitled "Evidence is in the Eye of the Beholder"On the Various Ways to Prepare Green Eggs and Ham
IFF: I come to sing the praises of Green Eggs and Ham. I sincerely like them, of that, certain i am...I eat them with Chutney, morning, noon, and night, cause their nutritious and healthy...with that i am right. So eat your green eggs and ham, and you will see, too, that it effects you in every thing that you do...
MA: I do not like green eggs and ham, i do not like them, certain i am...
RS: Now wait a minute, let's give them a try...let's be respectful..."frames of reference"... etc...etc..
MA: I do not like them, this i say, I do not like IFF, saying it's the Only Way.
Iff: i do not say the only way, there's endless ways to cook 'em. Try them and you'll see, i say, just like all the people who partook 'em.
Scobenja: if you like green eggs and ham so much, why don't you just let your house burn down...
MA: I've tried them japanese style... didn't like them then, and still don't like them now.
IFF: You tried them, great! Now try some more! Try an omelette, try souffle, try them each and every day! Boil them, broil them, fry them on a bunsen burner if you must, by try them, try them, and you'll see.
Chorus: he said, she said, etc ad infitum...
DogmaToxin: western chefs have been stealing their recipes from the east for years...
ST: "I is" who "I is"
various gullible voices: that's just bad grammar...he said, she said...etc.
RL: i invented a philosophy of going beyond evolution. i've always liked green eggs and ham, american style: snotty side up on a bed of toast w/ good old American Cheese!
chorus: evidence, smevidence, blah, blah, blah...
IFF: try them and you may, i say. Not everyone "gets" green eggs and ham, but try them and you may...
RS: i hear there's new advances in machines that will slice and dice them, and cook them however you want...
Professor Humbug: Humbug!... i was going to defend IFF, but now i think a truck should hit her!...
ST to the chorus: What came first, the egg or the big bang?...
Chorus: babble babble, he said, she said...
Wakecowboy: i love green eggs and ham...however you cook them!
Nikki: oh, so do I,but Bajastyle is best. It's similar to green eggs and chutney...would you like the recipe?
wakecowboy: perhaps we should get together for breakfast sometime...

IFF: repeats her mantra....chorus repeats the babble...etc.
Well, that's about it. If i left you out, misunderstood, or otherwise offended you... i apologize and beg for patience w/my poetic license....Peace, Light, Love...Nearlysilentbob
