i stop myself
every now and then
with an admonishment,
that i could still feel like this
whilst sitting on the deck of a yacht
naked in the sunshine
with nothing but calm seas all around.
it helps
to know this reality.
that some word
or action
out of place
could place one in liminality
so easily,
and it doesn't need plastic walls
of an electric shower
or the subliminal hum of a pc
or
the white noise of a tv
the blender
toaster
and a thousand brittle appliances.
shang-ri-la
could ring just as hollow
at some point of discomfort
dissatisfaction
as any suburban wallow
caged by the live wiring
designed merely to illuminate.
mind you -
sailing there...
the very thought of that
sobers me.

of my hostile memories,
and remembered that even
numbness is a feeling..."

This makes me think, that no matter where we go in life, numbness can be felt, no matter what place or how far we think we have come away from it. It always seems to linger, just beneath the surface. Very insightful. I like the direction you took the prompt. Outside of the font color, being a bit difficult to read, (it may just be my old eyes)I found this truly enjoyable to read, and I thank you for entering this lovely piece into this contest.

I like where you've gone with this prompt, showing that only the surface is calm; beneath the waters roil.
