You Were Promised Candy

You and I stand in line
taking cuts where we can
We're burning hours and melting sweat
approaching Candyland

I've heard it's free of toil
you've heard it's free of hate
We're having jokes and making laughs
As we sludge feet toward that gate

Some have burnt their brothers
Some have lived in sin
Some have offered pamphlets on a weekend's 10 AM

Let us draw the world a picture
of imaginary games
We'll settle all our tiebreakers
with the strongest holy name

Though I've tried the words of Father
I've thought Heaven's logic through
I would never have a Heaven
If a Heaven has a you

What did you think

Well, Major Tom this is quite a rhyme! Well done, too. However...the contest is for FV. Can you be this brilliant in free verse?

Nope. Poetically challenged. Going to go hide in prose now.
