Am I not lucid? Am I not sweet?

Maybe it's my lack of lucidity
and my clarity gets all twisted
in other people's minds and messages.
It's been going on for a while now
and sometimes it happens on the phone
but then there are sound effects,
like me yelling and I do regret that.
Yes, I regret that afterwards.

Surely, you must know I am
the kindest person imaginable
with the best of intentions.

But sometimes I get mad
because I am only effing human
and post menopausal at that.

You might take time to clarify
just what  I effing meant
though time has passed now
and I could give a good
god damn, putting it nicely.

Yes, I am nice
and intelligent
and worth talking to.

and you are
missing out
but I'm not.

I told my mother (over seventy) that I thought she was one of the angriest people I know. She slammed the phone down and hasn't called me since. Sweet old ladies my eye!

    • My mom is 81 and has become more outspoken since my dad died. She is reasonably nice most of the time but there are a few who have felt the sharp edge of her tongue! I seem to be going that way, as indicated in the poem, but I do try to modify it!

      Thanks for your comment.

You tell em J as I always say if they dont like it well ..an excellent rage against the boring dear poet

  • smiling at effing lol i would not have been so polite. the phone helps i think, speaking direct, it clears away misunderstandings that might arise in messages typed. a good poem.
