Dear John

Awake in my bed,
(with stale yellow light
dripping though my blind's cracks)
pouring from street lamps outside.
So-called darkness and a ticking clock,
cold coffee on my desk.

Lest I forget tomorrow,
I'll return your note of sorrow
to where it belongs:
Unseen beneath my trust.
