Patience is a woman's greatest virtue,
or so the saying goes.
A gymnast must have said it,
For a gymnast surely knows,
That in this funny sport of ours
Discouragement runs high,
And at times the very best will find
This virtue's passed her by.
When hands are ripped and throbbing
When every muscle's sore,
Can a gymnast still have patience
To limp back in for more?
When you've lost old moves you used to do,
And progress seems so slow,
Can you still have faith in better days
And not feel sad and low?
Can you admit you're frightened,
Yet not give in to fears?
Can you conquer pain, frustration,
And often even tears?
When someone else does something
You've tried so long to do,
Can you really feel glad for her?
And not just pity you?
When success seems far away,
Your efforts all in vain,
can you force yourself to wear a smile,
And disregard the pain?
If despite the tribulations,
You can say "I won't give in."
Maybe someday you'll discover,
That it's now your turn to win

That it's now your turn to win? I'm useless on the beam, and can't do a vault if you left me high and dry. But, this is like a rolled out mat for the dance routine, lovely visuals.

Oh indeed I like this very much. It speaks of inner strength and 'pushing though" and the aquired wisdom that progress and growth does not come without persistence, sometime even a little discomfort and pain.
I find its is like this with certain yoga poses…I think just a little more, just a little further and then finally when I do it, I feel great and successful for having obtained a goal. That alone is victory!
You write from life here and that’s what makes it a very real write in my eyes.

Very nice write my friend, I gather in such a sport all these things would come into play, I have always been amazed watching the gymnast on the tv sometimes I feel wow these people must be made from elastic bands or something, you have given us all a great insight into the sport of how the gymnast actually feel.

Great pacing, awesome word selection and it's cohesive, no loose ends. It goes somewhere and gives the reader insight to your world, that is all we can ever write about with any confidence. I believed you can really write well and now I know you can. Woman, keep that pen in your hand!
