Clank

Suddenly
sleet flicks my features,
crowning the lashes with water weight.
Alone, I drive homeward,
top down at sixty.

From market pace
to racing anxious,
with chatter banging the box.
On the vinyl passenger-side,
my shiny purchase.

A fair shake commenced,
the bills payed out.
Weary vendor wary of my grin.
But for me, another entry
to catalogue.

Stroking splinters
on the casing, etching
love notes and promises
and singing loudly,
anticipating.

Slid front end
into gravel pathway,
cut the engine to a wheeze.
Grabbing gift hastily,
leaping into shed.

A forceful dump,
clatter punching the table.
Spread out before me
in complicated fashion,
six sockets.

Spending an hour
just on the polish.
Four more nights of labor
will be required
for the weld.

Dishes filthy
since she left me;
but I'm building daily.
Replacement for her service,
metal maid willing to wash.
