is a long black marble hall.
At the end a portal sits
from which slimy demons crawl.
Chanting is heard for countless nights,
from the elderly satanic priests.
They open this portal with evil words
and summon ancient beasts.
Out crawl monsters small and large
with thoughts for death alone.
On an altar the virgin is tied
strapped down to obsidian stone.
They take their feast of human flesh
while the acolytes bravely sing.
They slice their skin and spill their blood,
all for the darkest King.
And there in the corner a shadow sits,
a cowl low on his face.
He may be old and grizzled with age
but he moves with a snake-like grace.
When he stands on his two feet,
the demons begin to shiver.
There is only one human so strong
that he can make a monster quiver.
A tapestry behind him
depicts an evil goat.
With breasts and horns so sharp,
this creature seems to gloat.
As this master of black craft,
sweeps back his haunted hood,
the demons slink back to their Hell,
as any puppet should.

Amazing imagery, but that's not a surprise. You never fail to fill a poem with the darkest, most frightening imagery. Great work.

Good Stuff
This was an enjoyable poem, aside from the fact that you use imagry that really makes you feel the frightened emotions that demons can bring, it also has some occult elements that you usually don't find when people write about magick. Excellent Work. -
-
Thank you. When I write about magick, I like to write about the occult and the dark, Hollywood satanic stuff.

Excellent imagery here, and the fact that it's evil makes it even better. Fucking epic. -

Thank you.

I like poetry that makes me do research! This one did... I had no idea who the characters where!
But I didn't need to research to enjoy the poem... It really does smack of the old Gothic style of writing... has the rhythm but is very contemporary... and there's a nice little, whimsical rhyming you do...When he stands on his two feet,
the demons begin to shiver.
There is only one human so strong
that he can make a monster quiver.I bit of verbal humor I think adds to chills. Anyway, you are tapping into a common fear that most of us have... an inability to control our own destiny, to be taken over, bound by demons.... or even worse... by a human being who has no sense of human compassion, who has more power than we do, who seems to enjoy the idea of power over another.
I think you also tap into the very 'primal" fear... fear of the supernatural. Also, there's a hint of "hell" in this with the demons torturing the virgin, the human. And the idea of cannibalism is also a basic human fear... being eaten alive! Romero tapped into that one too with The Night of the Living Dead.

Thank you! I love it when people leave big comments, something I've yet to master yet am working on all the time. I'm glad this is fearful to you, for some reason demons and such don't scare me as much as they do others. I watched the movie Devour, everyone freaked out but I was cheering for Satan the whole time. Thanks for reading.

Uncle A.L., hey?
Did you know Jayne Mansfield were a member of the Church?
Effective in its denouement, occasionally stilted in its execution, it is as thou surely wilt it.

Hail Satan -
This epic, dark poem speaks of a nightmare come true that takes place every night below the ground on which the center of one of the world religions is founded. The fumes of satan have permeated the halls of the cathedral above from the underground facilities beneath it. Mankind is being led to believe that there is no greater power than the one you write about. But the celestial stage is one of creation, not destruction - a huge infinite realm of which each object, entity and event is a part. The war is still raging in the heavens and inside each of us. At the horizon I see the first glimmering signs of peace that will one time overwhelm all. Thank you for creating and sharing this eloquent piece of poetry. I wish you the best of luck in the contest. Take care.
