If I Ever Visited...

If I Ever Visited…

I.

Best case scenario-
we will enjoy one another’s company,
be productive, and have a lot of fun
without our hearts connecting…

Worse case scenario-
our hearts lock,
and life will become torn and complicated

Worse case scenario-
we will be uncomfortable around one another,
and we will have accomplished nothing
except that realization…

Best case scenario-
our hearts will lock,
everything will make sudden sense,
and life will be heaven on earth for the rest of our days…

The best moments will be when she is just being a woman;
and the worse moments? When she is just being a woman…

II.

See the curtains hanging in the window
in the evening on a Friday night;
a little light shining through the window
lets me know everything’s alright…

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
blowing through the jasmine in my mind…

See the paper lying on the sidewalk,
a little writing blown out her door;
so I walk on up to the doorstep,
through the screen and across the floor…

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
blowing through the jasmine in my mind…

Sweet days of summer, the jasmine’s in bloom,
July is dressed up and playing her tune…

See the smile waiting in the kitchen,
candle light and the plates for two;
see the arms that reach out to hold me
in the evening when the night is new…

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine,
blowing through the jasmine in my mind…

III.

It cannot get any better…

IV

It took only one small movement
to lose complete control…

I don’t know how she took it
as I satisfied my every desire…

I can hardly remember it,
the blind urges, madly driving me on until…

the long silence, breathless,
and then dreams…

V

Note to self- when writing a poem
for a woman’s consumption,
one must think ‘shopping list’
and fill it with objects that they can go out and buy…

“My heart spilled upon the old-world tablecloth
mingling with the stray salts spilled over the previous night’s dinner,
the oak table groaning under all the promises
  of pleasure we left there,
our hearts dancing in luxurious evening wear
to the soft music of the ornate silver
originally crafted and handed down through generations
just for this, our moment, our occasion…

The scent of jasmine blooms collected on the way
will become a singular and gentle reminder
on every flowered wall calendar hence
that heaven awaits, right here on earth,
those willing to pry open the Sears and Roebuck catalog of life
with the credit card of realized romantic love at the ready…”

VI.

Ah, the pursuit of happiness,
then the monthly bill, interest accruing,
but no payments for nine months,
until the first shocker with that year's worth of interest tacked on…

and all payments after that less of a shock by degree…

Part II: lyrics from "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Croft
(and yes, I do love playing that one...)

  • Interpreted by a pathetic case scenario and a favorite song

Note to male writers: Women who are not enjoying sex often make lists in the mind. It passes the time while he is having a good time and she is wishing she was somewhere else. Try it for 20 years and you have the story of my pathetic, passionless, unfulfilled life.

I'm sorry, W. This poem made me vent. You have so much passion which delightfully displays itself in so many of your writings. You have enjoyed passion so much. I only wish I knew what that was just once (but I know the pain of childbirth quite well). It makes it hard for me to commiserate. You do write beautifully though. "Summer Breeze" is one of my favorite songs. Thanks. I know I don't deserve to be on your friends list anymore. I'm just tired of all the pain in life with none of the pleasure to go with it.
