Mill Stream Memories

Missing image

In morning silence wheel idly stands
Memories watching ripples long ago
Generations have basked in sunrise
Listened to wheel's churning tempo

Quaintness of setting, far removed
Inhale quietude, enjoy the relaxation
Away from hustle, bustle of everyday
Let the mind fill with vivid imagination

Flat stones skipped far side of the pond
The catfish biting, children gone fishing
How I miss those times of simple things
As I lay upon the green banks wishing

Sun glisten on water shine on the ice
Seasons change through winter to fall
Thoughts gather, moments to cherish
Sweet memories rush, I sit and recall

"Flat stones skipped far side of the pond
The catfish biting, children gone fishing " --> what beautiful lines

I found myself wishing I had memories
    like this to comfort me and long for;
alas I do not, but reading this is almost
    enough for me

    Congratulations on the Bronze!

    Stay safe
    Love to You

I can't decide which is more peaceful

the photo or your poem. Both of them make for a pretty picture.

    So, I'll call it a toss-up.

I especially liked the third stanza, and relish my own memories of the simpler times in my past.

    Wonderful write.

  • Beautifully written Sandi. How good it is to reminesce of the old days. I can remember a building made of stones and it had a waterwheel. I just can't remember where it was. I think it was in another state from where I lived. Anyway they are still a beautiful site to see.

  • The imagery of this poem and the words just puts the soul at ease and makes one feel as if everything will be alright and at that very moment they have not a care in the world. This is brilliant and lovely and so Sandy I love this.

As I read this, I could suddenly hear the theme from the old Andy Griffith Show playing in my head. Seriously, nice picture & nice take on that picture. Good one, Auntie Sandy.
