Closing of the Day

The yellow of the setting sun show the valleys dark
While the light upon the hillsides is like a glowing spark.
The olive green of gum trees, the dry grass on the ground
Sparkle with a golden glow the sunset spreads around.
Neighbors cattle fairly glisten in their black shiny skin,
Fluorescent in the fading glow dusk has invited in.
The shades of night will conquer, the daylight fade away
Heralding the closing of yet another brilliant day.

Thank you my friend. I wonder do I do justice to the beauty of it all; probably not. I can but try.

It would be nice to see a sunset here at the moment. Can't see anything but the rain!

  • A truely beautful poem!

You really painted this poem, Bob. Reminds me of a painting by Constable. "...music in the trees, how their leaves are a chorus to a blue day." A wonderful line. I know it's in your notes not the poem. But it's good anyway! I like your take on the beauty of the simple things in life.

Many thanks Bob. i am one of the lucky ones; I live in a rural area and by necessity i am out and about at the closing of the day. Ducks, chickens, dogs and cats all expect to be fed and secured for the night. Most times are pretty special but there is the time when the weather is lousy.

The closing of the day is always a special time for us. Our evening routine is to lock the chickens and ducks up safely from marauding foxes, feed our cats and dogs and,as it's winter now, stock up the firewood supply for the night. We see the changes brought about by the setting sun. Thank you for visiting and commenting, much appreciated.

This is just so beautiful. The whole piece is so warming and gives one a feeling of peace which rings in every word you used. I love the part ...neighbours cattle fairly glisten in their black shiny skins. That immediately put i picture in my head of those cows out there. Brilliant in its delivery and another great write. I loved it.

Good morning Lee, and thank you for dropping in and enjoying the view from my desk. I am blessed with a window looking across a paddock with black angus cows in it and a range of hills in the background. There is so many changes to the scenery with variations in sun, shade, birds and, of course, the movement of the cows. It is quite beautiful.

Thank you Sheila, I appreciate your comment and thoughts. The AN was not mine, that was the prompt. I sit at a window where I write and have a magnificent view. The poem is my attempt to describe it.

    Evocative...again

What to say, sensibly? I can well imagine an equivalent scenr -more especially as we have been having burning sun these last days, and long mellow evenings. No cattle here in Penge, tho'

Thank you for your kind words my friend. One of the advantages of rural living is that there are farm animals about as well as the wild life. This makes for a pretty good lifestyle as long as you don't want to go to the opera, or a live stage show.

  • Bob, you have truly captured the essence of natures beauty in your entry...with a bonus of author notes, beautiful as well...
I watch the sunrise as my pour my morning coffee...through my kitchen window, one of the reasons I live where I do...it's like saying hello to God...mary

I do the same thing almost every morning, and in the evening that is about the time I go out and put chooks and ducks to bed. It's lovely when Mother gets her paints out, morning or evening. Thanks for your visit and kind words Mary, greatly appreciated.

Very beautiful write s Lately, I count myself lucky to witness a gorgeous sunrise or sunset and realize that I've taken such things for granted because they occured so often...

but for weeks now, rain has preceeded sunset and sunrise, cancelling both displays with clouds and fog. Of course, the sun emerges in betweento intercept dreariness but it's not as dramatic between noon and four

Thanks for sharing your sunset s

    ~Genie~

Many thanks Genie, for your visit and comments. I live in a rural setting and when there is a sunset it's quite extroadinary. Like you though, we miss out when clouds and fog shut off the scenery and/or the colours.

I am thoroughly mortified, of course I wrote this. Bit different from the usual, eh? My dear niece I am changing again. I write less volume now as my time is taken up with my book, but I think more about what I'm writing. Good ? or er - ah -um - not so good?
Joking aside all I can say is a profound thank you for popping in and leaving such a kind comment.

Many thanks Bob, I appreciate your regular visits and comments. This poem is short, I admit that, but sunset is short too. By the time I realise it would be a lovely photo - it's gone.
