The Month Of June
The month of June is the year's high noon;
Leading on to full summer soon.
Warmer, usually, than that of May,
With a longer and often brighter day.
Two seasons seen within its weeks;
As corn, for green, a gold stain seeks.
Swallows and swifts are nesting now,
And fruit is spreading along the bough.
Those cherries show a reddish hue,
And burgeoning apples are scarcely few.
Blossoms, hardly profuse, we know;
Though flowers new blooms continue to grow.
That fragrant flowering 'May', you'll note,
Has cast away its petalled coat.
Instead it dons those berries small,
To transform soon to a crimson-studded shawl.
It's hardly surprising when you think,
That June takes us to the summer's brink.
