Within a quiet church yard my
sister sits and prays
She thinks of all the love she
shared in so many bygone days
The beads run through her fingers
as a steady rhythm grows
Life lines in her features reflect
the paths she chose
Heartbeats journey faster as words
form upon her lips
They move with urgent purpose
with each bead that’s kissed
Rivers of emotion flow from
her eyes that close
Then at her feet falls a single
blood red rose
Her heart stops for a moment as
the crucifix she kisses
Has the rose answered all my
sweet sister’s wishes?
I watch with trepidation my own
heart beating oh so fast
Then sigh with relief as her face is
filled with joy at last
I watch her leave the churchyard
cradling her rose of love
All I can say is that surely it was
sent from God above
sister sits and prays
She thinks of all the love she
shared in so many bygone days
The beads run through her fingers
as a steady rhythm grows
Life lines in her features reflect
the paths she chose
Heartbeats journey faster as words
form upon her lips
They move with urgent purpose
with each bead that’s kissed
Rivers of emotion flow from
her eyes that close
Then at her feet falls a single
blood red rose
Her heart stops for a moment as
the crucifix she kisses
Has the rose answered all my
sweet sister’s wishes?
I watch with trepidation my own
heart beating oh so fast
Then sigh with relief as her face is
filled with joy at last
I watch her leave the churchyard
cradling her rose of love
All I can say is that surely it was
sent from God above

Delightful!!!
Such a delightful poem.
I like it better on a second reading.
Later today I will be singing in the choir.
There is nothing quite so fulfilling as praising our creator.
My day is a little better now due to your fine poem. -

Ohhh Bob this is a wonderful comment, it really warms my heart.
I don't always get to church these days but I feel He is with me always, where ever I may be He is in my heart.
I hope you have a wonderful time singing his praises

Sad and hopeful...
I read this a couple of times, then a third. There are so many telling phrases and thoughts, but I kept getting bumped around by the metre and rhythm. Then I decided it would be fine, if spoken. Very touching story.

Thank you so much for reading and leaving such kind comments
Yes it is definitely one to read aloud, I read it to some friends the other day, and I was so pleased when one was moved to tears, and they do not even believe in God. Well I was really touched.

Very spiritual
You painted a very clear picture of a person in a church yard, seeking answers to the many questions of the soul. I was intrigued about why she was there, and your poem held my attention throughout. The rose she received must have been a symbol or sign. However it manifested itself, it was what she sought. Great piece of poetry here. Rose.

Rose Angel
Ohh Rose
thank you so much for your kind words, I'm so pleased you liked it so much.
I have to be honest and say that 'sister' was somewhat of a metaphor. I was reflecting upon myself and my own use of the beads, sometimes we do not realise that we have been helped until we look back on our experience. I was looking back at myself and the rose was symbolic of the help that God has given me. Lol I often reflect, perhaps too much
Again thank you so much and I hope my explanation has not spoiled the poem for you, it is lovely that we see different things in each others work

Thank you so much Dawn
The rosary has been a great comfort to me so I guess the rose is a tangible symbol of that comfort
