Single

Since youth she had wanted to marry
but Mr Right refused always to call.
Her heart remained free for a taker
while her friends married, one and all.
She's now in her middle forties,
tired of her life on her own,
but she still holds her dream of a partner,
not continuing her life alone.

Each day she grows older and older,
no children now will she see,
but that fact has ceased to matter,
she just wants a significant 'he'.
She visits her friends with their families,
she sees the concern in their eyes.
Male friends she has always a-plenty
but none of them looking for ties.

It's not that her life has been aimless,
a good job,  and her life's not been bland,
but there's no-one to whom she is special,
no-one beside whom she can stand.
At night it's especially lonely,
no-one to hear tales of her day.
She still hopes for her knight in bright armour
who will come and will whisk her away.
