Ephemerality

Everything is transient and ephemeral--and by extension, cosmically (and comically!) meaningless.

These bodies will surely one day die.  Even our very existences and our legacies are without significance, other than to our own shortsighted position.  We are worm food and very little more.  Anything beyond this is hubris. and we've all heard the song and dance about Ikaros.

Forces of Nature, Forces of Man, Forces of Emotion: these too shall all disappear.  Our creations will barely outlast our lives.  Even in the digital age.

Our rises, our falls, our relative positions on Lady Fortuna's wheel.  All mutable and ultimately meaningless.

Despite what the poets say, even love is not eternal.  It too is ephemeral.

And sometimes its transience is justifiable.  Sometimes you've given everything you can to someone, and it just doesn't seem to be enough.  They're not on your wavelength or they can't seem to meet you halfway or whatever.  And then what do you do?  Is it better to allow them to hurt you every day and make sure they're happy, or do you just cut it off before it REALLY starts to sting and bleed and become infected?

How long can you love someone while almost always being unhappy because they can't seem to give as much to the relationship as you think you deserve?  How many chances must you give them before it sinks in?

Do you play the selfless one and let them consume until you've completely given up all of your meaningless slice of whatever it is you hold dear?

Or do you let it all fall down, since only you--Samson--are holding up the temple.  Delilah is downtown getting drunk with her friends.  As usual.

Is it a noble death or an idiotic one?

From nothingness to beauty to ruination and back to nothing again.  Story of my fucking life.

Am I really learning anything?

Please tell me what you think
