i want your gold eyelashes,
velvet pinned like
so many dead butterflies.
glass encased in museums
with a sign that reads
"the birthplace of forgetting."
so that teachers
leading ropes
of sticky children
will point and say
"look closely children,
see what coming undone looks like.
see how beautiful despair can be."
i want your muffled sobs,
eternally captured like
pacific winter waves.
wrapped in pearly seashells
with a sign that reads
"the infinite emptiness."
so that mothers
laying infants down to rest
can gently press the warmth
of white noise weeping to
perfect tiny ears, whispering
"listen closely darling,
hear what broken sounds like
hear the comfort in sorrow.'
i want your jackson pollock mascara,
framed in the gallery of modern art
like so many abstract paintings
people pretend to understand
with a sign that reads
"post-pre-surrealist portrait
of the beginning of the end."
so that tour guides
leading crowds
of scattered tourists
can point and say
"scholars have suggested that this is,
in fact, paradoxical nonsense.
the gift shop is on the left"
i want the gift shop to only sell stuffed owls and kleenex.
