To act like a woman
by whom defined?
His definition is far from mine.
But his definition I must uphold,
unless I like pain
or so I've been told.
Women must be silent
and always agree.
Opinions are for those
much smarter then me.
Friends are forbidden
unless first approved,
by the formidable man
to whom I owe my gratitude.
He loves me and that is why
a black eye is all I received this time.
Then he proceeds to apologize,
says sorry with a kiss and a hug.
A kiss and a hug
but then he wants more.
Now he throws me to the floor.
I tell him no, please honey stop!
another mistake, for women,
we must do as we're told.
He shows me I'm wrong
with a kick to the side.
Then shows me I'm wrong
with his fist.
He tells me I must repent
and do as I'm told
as I begin to bleed,
already black and blue.
Another blow to the ribs
a crack, and I cry out in pain.
I'm sorry baby! Just please,
PLEASE make it stop!
Again, I feel his foot in my side.
He sees the fear on my face
then stops, my lesson learned,
says this time he'll let it slide.
Then he proceeds to apologize,
says sorry with a kiss and a hug.

This just chilled me right down to the bone! This is so powerful. Women should never be subjected to the abuse of men and yet millions are forced into it everyday! you did such a great job capturing the essence of an abuse victim and really showing her emotions

It is raw, brutal and honest.
I never received the blows, but the words instead
and the rest of your lines told my story of past

sttraight from the heart it really touched mine you have a very falid point. Life is unneccarily cruel at times but it takes a very strong will to rise above the ashes. You are like a pheonix. I really loved this poem thank you for entering.

I really dont know what to say of this, but I must say, this is brilliant, this is great and straight from the heart. It's sad when people become so possesive they hurt their partner like in this one. I like the reference you made of friends being forbidden...ah well. I know what this is all about. I just wish people gave each other more space and realise that, that is how and where love grows...
