A small shaggy dog was trotting along
With a twinkle in his big brown eyes
His held his head high as he wandered on by
And his tail pointed up to the sky
What happiness showed in the eyes that did glow
What peace there was born on his face
What love there was seen in the eyes that did gleam
As he trotted on by me with grace
There at his side with a face full of pride
Was a small girl so happy to be
Walking along with this small shaggy dog
And together they made a fine team
I watched them a while as they wandered away
And I smiled at the vision of love
A small shaggy dog and a sweet little girl
Who were paired by the spirit above

Thank you. I appreciate your dropping by and reading. Animals and children are the sweet bliss of this world. They need to be cherished and nurtured.

This flowed so smoothly it just rolled off the tongue. Kinda made me feel like singing.
Your picture was a perfect fit for this poem. Again I loved this lighthearted piece. -
Oh yes, I liked the flow and the scenery of this write...some unions come straight from above

Most Thespians don't like it when we have to perform with a child or a doggy. They steal the lime-light, upstaging us every time. Your poem is engaging and quite tender. It is refreshing to read a poem that is simple and sweet. There are so many that tend to baffle me. Yours makes me sigh. Beautiful!
Much Love & Respect ♥

A beautiful little poem. I do so think that dogs and small children belong together. Each giving love without asking for anything in return
Excellent

This reminds me of Fritz, our little Lhasa-Apso-Terrier mix who passed last September unexpectedly. He was a bone-full of smiles and happy little yelps and was always so eager to offer a nuzzle and a wag. I miss him, especially this being our first summer without him. Fritz was quite taken with my mom especially, so I always referred to him as Little Brother.
The girl in the poem could easily be my mom and the small, shaggy dog, Fritz. You're a terrific storyteller!

You have captured the loving bond between dog and child extremely well. I can see this scene in my minds eye as I read. Beautiful.

Thanks, Bob. I still have over 90 old ones in my collection but i am not sure if some are worthy of being here. I'm in the process of writing four more which i keep in a seperate folder and work on when i feel the need. Glad you liked this one. It was hard to find a photo that fitted.

One small item in L 3 of first verse. Might flow easier with "He held his head high as he wandered on by" . You must have quite a collection in your 'library'. I used my few up very quickly and have to write new ones all the time now.
Keep em coming. -

Thank you.
