Gary, Indiana held the promise of tomorrow
Michael Jackson was born; his life many soon would follow
Who knew that on this day an icon would be born?
That Fifty years later, his death, millions would mourn
At age five (though some say nine)
The voice of a genius started to shine
The new face of music had just arrived
Through radio speakers: Michael and The Jackson Five!
"ABC," "I Want You Back," and "I'll Be There,"
Hit the charts at number one
Everything Michael touched turned to gold
And this was only the beginning of the career that would unfold
The 60's and 70's went in the blink of an eye
But before they were over, Michael left The Jackson Five
An amazing solo career he had, we recall
Starting in '79 with his first album, "Off The Wall."
R&B and Disco blended with a smooth sound
The first two singles proved he'd be the biggest around
Nobody thought he would ever outdo himself
Little did we know what was yet to hit the shelf
Three years later, "Thriller" was released
Hit after hit brought everyone to their feet
Then the video came, thirteen minutes long
Monsters, dance moves and killer lyrics: fans were instantly drawn
Now came Motown 25, a night of musical celebration
A night where one move would forever rock the nation
"Billie Jean," a white glove and Michael on stage
Created the moonwalk, 'like floating on air, fans say, amazed
Not only was he big in music, but in charities as well
A project for all artists to join together and tell
"We Are The World" was written to lend a helping hand
To let the world know, together we must stand
His next album hit number one, again, the first week
"Bad" was a side of Michael that the world had yet to see
Edgier and more raw than he had previously arranged
"Man in the Mirror," however, was softer, asking the world to make a change
The 90's came with rap and grunge; a new wave of music
Yet, in '91, another album, "Dangerous" showed the newcomers how you do it!
It seems it would never end, Michael would always be on top
The nickname the industry gave was true; He was "The King of Pop"
His words, caring nature and dreams broke racial barriers
Honesty and love spread with his lyrics as the carriers
A song free of racism and hate matched with a catchy tune
"Black or White;" a modern song hit the charts and spoke of truth
'Though allegations of inappropriate conduct soon followed
Such malicious statements left poor Michael's privacy hollowed
Blasted by the media, hate and anger, he fell into despair
Until one day when, finally, "innocent" the jury did declare
The following years came and went with not so much said
Albums released but his name was tainted with what was unsaid
More focused on his physical change rather than his talent
One last chance in '09, for him to make his final comeback
Tragically, a heart attack, took this legend away
Before the magic of his last concerts could be displayed
His body may be gone, but his heart and soul remains
Throughout his music, donations and memories that flow through our veins
He was the life; the heartbeat; the spark of music today
As a true Michael Jackson fan, I will be one of many to say,
Rest in Peace, dear Michael, the true "King of Pop"
No matter what the world brings, you will always be in my heart

It's so sad that he died!
He was such a talent. It was ashame that he decreased his worth every now and again by his crazy antics.
I must say, there will never be a person who can more or sing like him, though.
R.I.P MJ!
And amazing write, Nic, as usual.
